Spirit House

Spirit House Wood with mixed media (copper, stone, mirror, etc.) 33"h x 36"w x 44"l Canoeing on the upper Mississippi River near Bemidji, Minnesota we came upon an Ojibwa burial site. The images have hung with me for many years and the the concept of what a Spirit House might mean, culturally, and contain in different times and places intrigues me. This is not an mock Ojibway burial, but it was inspired by a people whose care for, and connection with the things around them was of utmost importance.
